Perfect Baked Potato has crispy, flavorful skin and a fluffy, steaming interior. This simple method delivers restaurant-quality results every time and makes the ideal base for both classic and creative toppings.

Ingredients

4 medium russet potatoes
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp coarse salt
Butter, sour cream, cheese, or favorite toppings (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Position a rack in the center of the oven.

Prepare the potatoes
Scrub the potatoes well under running water and pat completely dry. Use a fork to pierce each potato 4–5 times to allow steam to escape.

Season the skins
Rub each potato lightly with olive oil, then sprinkle evenly with coarse salt to help create crispy, flavorful skins.

Bake
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet. Bake for 45–60 minutes, depending on size, until the skins are crisp and a knife slides easily into the center.

Fluff the inside
Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Slice each potato lengthwise and gently squeeze the ends to fluff the interior.

Serve
Top with butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, or your favorite toppings and serve hot.

 Tip: For extra-fluffy centers, lightly tap the potato on the counter before cutting to loosen the inside
